WEAU Interview 2014

The Valley Gospel Choir was formed in the spring of 1992 to perform at Country Jam as part of the Sunday morning events. The first choir was made up of members who loved to sing, sang in area church choirs, and enjoyed singing gospel music. Our first concert was in 1992 at Memorial High School.

In July, 2000 we moved to the State Theater and began singing two concerts in mid-July. July 2009 brought another change as the concerts were moved to Grace Lutheran Church in Eau Claire. With the audience so close, there is an a special association enjoyed by both the listeners and performers.

We have had only three directors in these 15 years. The choir was formed under the direction of Paul Nixdorf. Cathy Reitz took over the choir in 1996. Merlyn Aude took over the choir in 2006. Many of our current members are charter members having sung with the choir since the beginning. We have a loyal following of concert attendees who look forward to our yearly concerts.

Mid-year we get together to sing and prepare a short concert given as a benefit for a local organization. Persons who wish to have the choir perform for their organization should contact the Director, Choir President, or Office Manager. Members are elected to the Board of Directors who plan, prepare, and direct the organization.

 Message from the President:

Best wishes for 2014.  Hopefully, everyone experienced a joyous Christmas and is excited about another great year with Valley Gospel Choir.

This webpage will update you on our upcoming activities including contact information, schedules, winter benefit concert and summer concert.  We hope you will be available to join us for the winter concert.  If you can't attend the practice for that event but are available for the concert, let us know and we will have a music folder available for you.

Thanks to our outgoing president, George McLeod, for his wonderful leadership.  VGC remains stable in both its finances and membership.  Each year seems to be more challenging to find enough revenue to hold back ever-rising costs, however, we always find ways to overcome those obstacle without sacificing quality.  It's because of our members' efforts and the support of family, friends, and community members that sustain us each year.  We always welcome new suggestions and considerations, so if you have ideas about fundraising or additional sponsorship possibilities to help VGC remain fiscally strong, please let the Board know.

Each year, VGC seems to raise the bar with respect to quality performances and dedication to inspire our appreciative and supportive audiences.  Hopefully this year will continue that tradition.  Your willingness to share your vocal and musical talent to glorify God is a testimony in itself, and we appreciate your commitment to that goal.

Good luck to everyone as we begin another great year with VGC!

Dale Dittmer, Board President 2013-14

Message from the Director:

Greetings Valley Gospel Choir members!!  It looks like we have had quite winter.  Personally, I would rather have 10 inches of snow rather than 10 below!

We watched the video of the concert at the last VGC meeting and it turned out quite well.  The soundtrack from the video is what we'll use to made the audio recording of the 2013 concerts.

I've been keeping musically busy playing in church, pit orchestras, and attending several contemporary Christian concerts.  I really enjoy these events and it's great research for possible songs for us to sing.

I hope to see many of you when we are together for our winter event rehearsal and concert.  Until then, watch out for the ice and take care shoveling snow.

 Merlyn Aude, Director
